The weather is with us!  The 2013 season is starting the First Wednesday in June. This year the format is changing. We are going to run a Youth program.

Ages 10 – 15 years old. This program will run for 12 weeks starting the June 5th. It will be one night a week.  45 min drills/skills followed by a 45 min game.

Can take up to 54 children.

Location: TBA – Not sure which field yet.

Costs?

50 dollars per child.

Families with more than one child. The second+ child is 30 dollars.

PRACTICES:

We will be practicing every Wednesday night at Rickson Park. ( 18 Rickson Ave – GPS )

Last practice is August 23rd.

Please bring a white and black shirt, cleats, water and a smile to each practice.

Games:

We are playing in Perpetual Motion’s B7 league this summer. It’s a Rec league for new comers to  the game.

Games are played on the Guelph Lake Sports fields. ( At the north west end of Woodlawn Rd- Nearest intersection is Woodlawn and Victoria)

First Game is July 2nd. Last game is August 20th.

Have you ever seen a high tier game of Competitive Ultimate before? Where championships are on the line, where players aren’t worried about getting their parents upset if they walked in soaked in mud and grass stains, where hundreds of screaming fans are on the sidelines holding their breaths at each attempted layout?

Competitive Ultimate is a whole different sport (yes, it’s a sport!) from Recreational Ultimate. While the basics of the game are still there, and the calls are still made by players, it’s a whole different level of play between your playground games of 5 on 5 and the 2011 Canadian Ultimate Championships. If you’ve ever been embarrassed telling your friends that your main sport is “Ultimate Frisbee”, a sport generally viewed as soft due to the non-contact nature, you shouldn’t, because this sport is one of the most intense ones in the world.

Below is the video from the 2010 World Club Ultimate Championships, showing off the best highlights of that tournament. Note that these players have been playing Competitive Ultimate for 5,10, and in some cases 20 (Masters division, I’m looking at you) years! We do not expect each of our games to produce such highlight worthy reels, but know that this sport does indeed get rough and dirty, and you should be proud to say you play it.

Our local Open team the Maverick is out of Kitchener.  These guys burst on the Canadian Ultimate scene last year finishing 5th at Nationals in their first year.

WOMENS

Our local Women’s team PPF out is also out of Kitchener.  They finished Sixth place at Nationals last year.
